McIlroy dominates

Open. Open mark of 199 after shooting a 3 under 68 Saturday. Yang, cheap golf clubs.

If not for McIlroy’s near chokehold on the field, stellar play from players with North Carolina ties who struggled early might have more meaning on the leaderboard. Of 11 players with North Carolina ties who started the tournament, just five made the cut.

Davis Love III notched another quality sub par round to remain in the Top 10 at 2 under for the tournament. But he said that with McIlroy’s huge lead, Sunday might be a lot less interesting.

"But you still try to do it the best you can," Love said. "You can’t change the way you play. You do the best you can. You can’t worry about what (McIlroy is) doing. He’s obviously playing fantastic golf. He was, I’d say, one swing from winning the Masters, and then he hits it in the fairway on 10, and I think it was over."

Webb Simpson had seven birdies and two bogeys en route to the second best round of the day, a 5 under 66 even with a one stroke penalty on No. 13 when his ball moved at address on the green. He ended up with a bogey on the hole, and heading into the final round, he’s tied for 15th, still 13 shots behind the leader.

"I addressed the ball and the ball moved about a half inch, quarter inch, Ralph Lauren Canada," he said. "I think we’ve been through this too many times, Moncler pas cher, hadn’t we? But it was kind of the same deal as (the Zurich Classic in May in) New Orleans. It was unfortunate, http://www.alsaceclean.fr/, but I think it really made me committed to try to finish strong and made a couple of good birdies coming in."

He then caught a break when his tee shot on 18 landed in a spectator’s lap. Under a USGA ruling, he dropped where the spectator had been sitting, and he carded a par on the hole.

"I’ve never had a ball end up in somebody’s lap," Simpson said "It reminded me of Happy Gilmore. It ended up being a good break, just to the right of the trees. So the rough there wasn’t high, it was laid down, so it was a pretty good break."

Both Dustin Johnson and Bill Haas also made big jumps up the leaderboard. Haas shot a 68 and is at 1 over for the tournament, tied for 27th. And Johnson fired a 69 and is at 2 over for the event, tied for 33rd.

Kevin Streelman struggled Saturday, carding a 3 over Saturday, and he now is 7 over and tied for 57th.
